There’s been a big hullabaloo lately in the British press about baby images being air-brushed and Photoshopped before they’re put onto magazine covers and into circulation. Apparently, the major magazines, like Practical Parenting and Pregancy have admitted to digitally messing with babies’ skin tone, eye colour and fat creases – all in the interests of making a prettier picture. And let’s face it those spotty, chubby, pasty- faced Brit kids need all the help they can get.

Mothercare continues its strong growth with the announcement of eight new store openings before Christmas, creating 400 new jobs. International child care and parenting center Mothercare has announced plans to open 12 new “landmark” stores in thriving shopping centers and create 400 new jobs, buoyed by an 11 percent rise in profits. While many retailers have struggled to stay afloat, Mothercare saw a 40 percent increase in sales in April and increased overall sales this year.

New research reveals that women who develop preeclampsia during pregnancy are at higher risk of reduced thyroid function later in life. Preeclampsia is a condition which sometimes develops in the second half of pregnancy, leading to extremely high blood pressure for some women. While specific causes are not known, it is believed that high levels of proteins in the pregnant woman’s body might be a contributing factor. The new research findings were published in the November 18 online edition of BMJ . The American and Norwegian researchers studied two groups of women, those who developed preeclampsia and those who didn’t.
