Official numbers out of the UK reveal that girls as young as 10 are getting pregnant. The U.K.’s newspaper The Sun has revealed that in the last eight years, at least 15 girls aged 10 and 39 girls aged 11 became pregnant in England and Wales. The Sun received its data through a Freedom of Information request, finding that in total there have been 63,487 reported pregnancies in girls aged 15 and younger since 2002.

Julia Donaldson Gruffalo author speaks of son’s suicide

Britain’s favorite bedtime story, The Gruffalo, has a tragic family story around it of mental illness. Author Julia Donaldson has revealed how she wanted her son Hamish to die before she and husband Malcolm did and how whilst Hamish inspired her to become a writer he was afflicted with schizoaffective disorder and later in life, alcoholism. She said: “Sometimes I think (his suicide) was an almost unselfish thing.” On Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs this morning Mrs Donaldson made the tragic admission telling host Kirsty Young she is almost glad her 25-year-old son, who committed suicide in 2003, died before she did.

Britain has taken the top spot with the highest number of reported abortions in Europe in 2007. Sifting through data provided by Eurostat, Norway-based Institute for Family Policies has found that Britain ranked at the top of the European abortion list for 2007, overtaking France, a country with nearly six million more people. As teenage pregnancy rates have increased more than 30 percent over the last 10 years, abortion rates for girls under 18 have also increased.

Teen Vogue Magazine cover accused of glamourising young pregnancy

19-year-old Jourdan Dunn from Britain is featured on the US magazine, “Teen Vogue” and while showing no signs of a baby bump on the cover, inside she is interviewed and says she is due in December. Opposed to warning teens about pregnancy at an age of immaturity, the magazine has been slammed by critics for making light of teen parenthood and potentially glamorising it.

The odds for IVF success are currenty less than one in four procedures and with around 37,000 woman in Britain every year undergoing IVF, this will be welcome news. British scientists have developed a new method, which screens embryos for genetic defects and greatly increases the chance of women becoming pregnant, even in their late thirties.

About 37,000 British women had IVF treatment last year and now scientists in Britain have made a further breakthrough. Bringing hope to thousands more women and increasing the liklehood of success is welcome news and it’s all acheived with an embryo screening technique. For patients even in their late thirties, a trial showed that it doubled the conception rate Dr Dagan Wells of Oxford University, who developed the technique described the results as, “astonishing” and Stuart Lavery, consultant gynaecologist at the IVF unit at Hammersmith Hospital, said the latest results were ‘quite amazing when compared to conventional approaches’
